Emily Helmes, a recent graduate of the forensic science master’s program, reflects on the hands-on experiences and applicable skills she gained in the program that contributed to her success in landing a job before graduation.
According to Qiuhan Wang, a 2015 graduate of the program now working at the California Department of Justice, the MS in Forensic Science prepared her well for her doctoral studies and a career in a crime lab.
Forensic science is a science of identification and comparison, asking questions such as what or who? For example, attempts to answer the question of “who” commonly draw upon evidence such as DNA profiles, fingerprints, facial or voice recognition data.

Programs in forensics are hard to come by in Aldrin Alviar’s native Philippines, so pursuing a master’s in forensic science at UC Davis is not only fulfilling his academic goals, it’s also a dream come true.
